Counselling for Mothers & Women Seeking Reconnection & A Stronger Sense of Self

Are you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, burnt out, or unsure who you are beneath your many roles? I offer warm, psychodynamic counselling for women navigating motherhood, identity shifts, relationships, and the emotional complexity of caring for others.

I can support you in managing burnout, stress and the mental load — learning to trust yourself, access self-care without guilt, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may feel lost or overlooked.

My name is Maddy. I have a deep interest in all relationships, and particularly in the physical and emotional journey of being a parent or caregiver. I am committed to being part of a world where we are all valued, respected, and empowered to succeed and recognise that women often face unique challenges – social, cultural, and structural – that can make this journey difficult.

Sometimes the hardest part is reaching out. You can email or call me directly, whichever feels easier.

I offer a warm, inclusive space, where all parts of your identity — including gender, sexuality and neurodiversity — are welcomed and respected.

I am an experienced relational counsellor offering face to face and online therapy for individuals in Brighton & Hove

I specialise in supporting women through the ongoing transition of motherhood and caregiving, sometimes known as matrescence—the profound emotional, psychological, and identity shift that can unfold over time. This might include feelings of anxiety, resentment, guilt, disconnection, or a or a feeling that you no longer recognise yourself.
You may love your child deeply, yet feel overwhelmed, lost, or unlike yourself. Perhaps your relationships feel strained, or you find yourself reacting in ways you don’t fully understand.
Many women are surprised by the emotional and psychological impact of motherhood—not just in the early days, but across the whole journey of caring for others. I offer a space where you can begin to make sense of these experiences—without judgement, pressure, or expectation.

How I work

My approach is relational and psychodynamic. Together we make space to explore not only what is happening in your life now, but also the experiences, relationships and patterns that may still be shaping how you feel, relate and cope today. Sometimes these patterns come from childhood, family relationships, cultural expectations, caregiving roles, or experiences we have had to adapt to in order to survive.

Our work may explore:

  • your story and how you came to understand yourself
  • relationships past and present
  • identity, motherhood and caregiving experiences
  • anxiety, guilt, resentment, overwhelm or disconnection
  • your internal world, dreams, fantasies and emotional patterns

I am a fully qualified and insured Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I adhere to its ethical framework.
